Crowns

Tooth restoration is done not just to repair a tooth that has been damaged, but to ensure that the tooth can function properly after the repairs. If the problems that arise are more than just cosmetic issues, the team at Radiant Dentistry may encourage patients to consider the advantages of addressing the issue with a dental crown.

A dental crown is a restoration that is made of porcelain, a material that closely mimics the appearance of natural tooth enamel. This porcelain restoration is fabricated to cover the entire visible portion of a tooth. Commonly called dental “caps,” crowns are fashioned to not only look beautiful when placed in the smile but to keep the tooth protected from further damage and strengthen the remaining structure. These restorations are named after the portion of the tooth that is visible in the smile, known as the crown of the tooth.

Dental crowns are used to restore:

A tooth that has been chipped, cracked, or fractured
A tooth that has recently had root canal therapy performed
A tooth that has severe cosmetic blemishes that cannot be addressed with common cosmetic solutions
A tooth that is considerably smaller in appearance than those around it
A tooth that has a large area of decay that impacts the integrity and strength of the remaining structure

What to expect during placement of a dental crown

First, Dr. Williams performs an examination to determine if you require a dental crown. Once Dr. Williams has decided that a crown will help you, preparations begin. He removes the outer tooth enamel prior to taking impressions of the tooth to send to a dental laboratory. The laboratory uses the mold to create a dental crown from porcelain that matches in shape, size, and colors of the existing teeth surrounding it. The final restoration is sent to Radiant Dentistry, and patients return for the bonding of their dental crown over the tooth.

How do I care for my dental crown?

Patients can care for their dental crowns in the same way they care for the rest of the smile. This includes routine brushing, flossing, and dental visits to Radiant Dentistry for evaluations. Patients with crowns should take a proactive approach to their dental health to extend the longevity of their dental restorations.

Clear Aligners (Invisalign)

Have you been considering the benefits of orthodontic treatment to straighten your smile, realign the bite, and address malocclusion?

While traditional braces made with metal brackets and wires are a more conventional way to achieve a beautiful smile, patients are now able to achieve the same results with clear aligner therapy. With Invisalign, patients can work with our dental team at Radiant Dentistry to enhance their smile and achieve the desired results without having to cover the teeth with metal appliances. Instead, Invisalign allows patients to improve their smile’s appearance while doing so in a discreet manner. This is due to the use of clear plastic aligner trays.

Video 01:32 | How does Invisalign work? Learn about how Invisalign’s clear aligners are an alternative to metal braces and can help you achieve the smile you deserve.

Invisalign has many advantages that patients consider when choosing their orthodontic treatment:

Discreet – with Invisalign, patients can improve their smile without dealing with metal appliances that can be unsightly and embarrassing, especially for adult patients who dislike the idea of hiding their teeth while improving the smile.
Simple – patients wear each tray for two weeks during the day and night, only removing them for eating, drinking, brushing, and flossing them. Patients progress through their treatment to achieve their desired results.
Removable – by removing the trays, patients often maintain better oral health than those with braces. This is because the teeth are easily accessible for brushing and flossing, while brackets and wires can make it challenging to keep the teeth and gums clean throughout treatment.
Effective – Invisalign has helped thousands of adults achieve their dream smile and continues to be an effective solution for patients with mild to moderate malocclusion. In fact, many patients achieve results faster with Invisalign than with conventional orthodontia.
Comfortable – metal brackets and wires can scratch the soft tissues of the mouth and can be uncomfortable for some. Invisalign uses smooth, clear trays that will not irritate the mouth, ensuring better comfort for patients than braces.

How do clear aligners work?

Instead of using metal brackets glued to the teeth and adjusted with wires, Clear aligners take an entirely different approach. Patients are evaluated for mild to moderate malocclusion and to determine if they are an appropriate candidate for clear aligner treatment. Digital scans are taken of the current smile and sent off to a lab. The team there will create a series of trays that take the patient’s present smile to their desired smile. The trays return to the dental office where patients will learn how to use them, progressing through their trays two weeks at a time. When patients wear their final tray, the results are reached, and patients can enjoy their brand new smile—without embarrassing metal appliances throughout treatment.

Are you a candidate for clear aligners?

At Radiant Dentistry, we are excited to offer clear aligners for patients who qualify. Teenagers and adults who have mild to moderate misalignment of the teeth, including poor bite alignment, may be able to benefit from clear aligner treatments. We evaluate each individual to determine if he or she is a proper candidate for Invisalign before moving forward with digital impressions and ordering the tray series.

Veneers

Transforming your smile into the smile of your dreams is not as challenging or expensive as you may expect. In fact, teeth that are stained and discolored may benefit from a simple, professional teeth whitening service. However, if other imperfections impact these teeth, such as gaps, chips, and cracks, you may still find a solution that works thanks to porcelain veneers!

Porcelain veneers are thin shells of porcelain that are custom-made to match your existing teeth. In doing this, it ensures they blend into the smile and maintain a natural look. These thin shells are bonded onto the front of a tooth to cover common imperfections that are causing you to feel self-conscious about your smile. Porcelain veneers are versatile, concealing teeth with issues such as:

Severe or internal staining/discoloration
Chipped or worn teeth
Teeth that are too short or irregularly shaped
Broken or cracked teeth
Gaps and spaces between teeth
Teeth that are crooked or misaligned
Malformed/misshapen teeth
Why choose porcelain veneers?

Because porcelain veneers are designed to cover a natural tooth completely, they can dramatically transform your smile in just two visits —which is often far fewer visits than most patients expect! Porcelain veneers are long-lasting, and with proper care, you can maintain them for many years. They also require minimal alterations to your teeth, making them a conservative option. Additionally, porcelain veneers are also stain-resistant, making them a more desirable alternative to composite resin bonding.

How are porcelain veneers made and placed?

The porcelain veneer process starts with a consultation appointment to determine candidacy. If a patient is a good fit for veneers, preparations begin. This includes filing down the front portion of the tooth prior to taking impressions. Using the impressions, the dental laboratory fabricates the final restoration based on the dentist’s information regarding size, shape, and color. A temporary veneer is often bonded onto the tooth until the final restoration can be placed. Most patients will have their veneers completed by their second dental visit!

Teeth Whitening

One of the most commonly requested cosmetic procedures at the dental office is that of professional teeth whitening. While most drugstores offer over-the-counter products, including trays, pens, strips, and toothpastes, many of these fall short of offering the results patients desire. In situations such as this, the team at Radiant Dentistry encourages patients to learn more about the professional treatments used in our office for achieving dramatic, safe results!

Gainesville, Florida patients who are considering professional whitening will find that our two methods offer tried-and-true improvements for a more brilliant smile. We offer:

Opalescence Boost In-Office Whitening – offers dramatic bleaching done under the care of our professional team. In less than two hours, patients can whiten their smile significantly. This treatment option is often chosen by patients who have upcoming events where they want to look their best, such as a wedding or a high school reunion. The results are fast, safe, and dentist-led.
At-home whitening kits – for patients seeking more gradual enhancement and a more affordable solution, our at-home whitening kits are readily available for patient purchase. These kits include custom trays made from impressions of the upper and lower dental arch. Patients wear the trays with professional-strength bleaching gel to obtain the best results in the comfort of their own homes!

Which whitening method is right for me?

We encourage patients to take time to speak to our team of professionals at Radiant Dentistry to decide which professional treatment is most appropriate for their unique needs. We take the time to educate patients on the pros and cons of each solution, and work with them to choose one that can help them obtain the results they desire. In most situations, the more economical solution is the at-home whitening kits, but results are obtained slower than with our in-office treatment.
